Homoeopathy is one of the widely practiced complementary systems of medicine in Bangladesh and has a long historical presence dating back to the British colonial period. Today, Homoeopathy plays an important role in providing affordable healthcare, especially in rural and urban areas where access to conventional medical facilities may be limited & higher cost. The Government of Bangladesh officially recognizes homoeopathy as an alternative medical care as well as traditional system of medicine. The sector is supervised previously mainly by the Bangladesh Homoeopathic Board and after end of 2023 the Bangladesh Homoeopathic Medical Education Council (BHMEC), which regulate homoeopathic medical education, registration, and professional standards. There are one Government Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital under Dhaka University & 66 none Government Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital under Bangladesh Homoeopathic Medical Education Council (BHMEC). Bangladesh Government approved homoeopathic Medical Courses are BHMS (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery) & DHMS (Diploma-in-Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery). Government-approved homoeopathic medical colleges, training institutes, and hospitals operate across the country, producing qualified practitioners each year. Homoeopathic treatment is popular among people because of its comparatively low cost, individualized approach, and perceived minimal side effects. It is commonly used for chronic diseases such as respiratory diseases, skin diseases, digestive problems, arthritis, allergies and various pediatric conditions and also all types of acute & chronic illness. Homoeopathy system of medicine also treating all types of communicable & non-communicable diseases. Many private clinics and charitable dispensaries provide homoeopathic services, and some government health facilities also include homoeopathic parts. Bangladesh Government also appointed homoeopathic doctors as medical officer in selected Zilla & Upazila hospital under HPNSDP project. Despite its popularity, the homoeopathic sector in Bangladesh continues to face challenges such as limited research infrastructure, need for updated educational facilities, and better integration with the national healthcare system. Strengthening academic research, regulatory monitoring, and public awareness could further enhance the quality and effectiveness of homoeopathic healthcare in the country. Overall, homoeopathy remains an important complementary healthcare option in Bangladesh, contributing to accessible and affordable treatment for a large segment of the population.
